After School Hours the Lights are Still ON

The after school hours at St. Madeleine Sophie School are becoming as busy as our school days!  Last weekend we had a very successful Dr. Seuss themed Barnes and Noble Book Fair at Colonie Center.  We were able to introduce shoppers to our school, provide crafts and a Lego table for children to play with, all while raising funds for our school.

Both our Kindergarten through Second Grade Drama Club and our Grades 3-5 Drama Club are in full swing.  Our younger students are learning the basic knowledge of theater terminology and participating in a "Reader's Theater" experience, while our older students are working  on getting into character for their production of The Jungle Book. Both clubs involve auditioning, making costumes and scenery and participating in theater games and exercises to help the children become better performers.  The final production is a culmination of lots of work and fun!

Bowling Club is drawing to a close in the next few weeks and we are so grateful for our decades long  relationship with Town N Country Lanes that allows our students the opportunity to learn about teamwork, good sportsmanship  and bowling skills. Student Council Members are in the middle of two service projects to benefit Operation Rice Bowl and Pennies for Patients, while some of our Fifth graders are loving Technology Club.

As part of our continuous improvement plan for our accreditation from AdvancEd we have started our first Math Enrichment Club for  some of our older friends. Hands-on, project based learning applying math concepts to everyday situations is the goal, while making math relevant and fun.   Instrument lessons and band practice round out our extra-curricular activities aimed at nurturing the unique gifts, talents and interests of each of our students.

Providing a well rounded education rooted in our Catholic faith is our mission, if you or someone you know has children or grandchildren who might like to join our SMS School family please call 518-355-3080 or email us  for a tour, classes are filling quickly for the 2018-2019 school year!
