Mrs. Alvord

Greetings and Salutations!

My name is Gina Alvord. I am the ELA resource room teacher here at St. Madeleine Sophie School. My education began at SUNY Oneonta, when I earned my Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education followed by my time at the College of Saint Rose, where I earned my Master´s degree in Reading. I have over twenty years as a classroom teacher. During this time I have learned a plethora of teaching techniques and strategies, employed educational and behavioral accommodations, and developed an insight and appreciation of the God-given uniqueness of every child! I stepped into this school community as the parent of a third and fifth grader many moons ago. Through the many wonderful social interactions, educational and spiritual celebrations this school community now feels like my school family.

In 2016, I joined the SMS faculty. It is exciting collaborating, strategizing, and analyzing data to meet the diverse needs of every child. I love thinking outside the box, all things ELA, and working with students at every grade level makes my day! I meet with students one to one, in small group settings, and sometimes I push into classrooms to offer support during whole group lessons. On occasion I provide students with a quieter work environment to work on a  specific assignment or assessment given by their classroom teacher. I assist teachers in monitoring and assessing student progress in the IReady reading program. Being able to help students get to those ´lightbulb moments´ where they finally understand something that was previously challenging is one of the most rewarding parts of my work!
