About Art Class at Saint Madeleine Sophie:

Across all grade levels in the art room, you can expect your child to…

• Explore a wide range of art tools and materials. We draw, paint, make prints, use found objects, sculpt with clay, and much more.
• Learn how to use the elements & principles of art and design to express themselves. We start simple, with lines and shapes, and work all the way up to concepts such as value, movement, and harmony.
• Think critically to interpret art & connect it to their own lives. Students at all grade levels are challenged to find evidence in the artwork to support their ideas.
• Discuss how art shapes our world, both past and present, and in turn, how the world shapes our art.
• Help foster a sense of community by sharing suggestions, ideas, and successes with others. They’ll also gain the language and social skills to offer constructive criticism in a way that is caring and positive.  
• Gain the courage to try something new, even knowing that mistakes and failure are part of making art. Progress is always emphasized over perfection!
• Take pride in their growth, creativity, and uniqueness.
