Assignments
Dear Students and Families, Round two! On Thursday, January 19th, bring in your reading log, filled out with at least five books that you have read since the beginning of the school year, and a book project for the first marking period. You will be presenting this book project to the class. Five points will be taken off for each day that the log is late.
ü Create an Animoto (a free video-making program; parents will need to assist with registration) Go to http://animoto.com/, to sign in. Step 1: Click “sign up” Step 2: Fill in/check all boxes. *Step 3: Click “Do you have a promo/referral code?” (we do!). The code is a4ebarr64e0a6. When you submit, you should get the screen that says "You are currently an Animoto for Education user." Step 4: Click on Create video in the top right corner of the screen. Step 5: Select a format for your video. You can change your format/background later if you change your mind. When you choose your format, an option for a brief tutorial is available. The page is then fairly straightforward and user friendly. I am available after school, with reasonable notice, for help making an animoto video. Adding text is just a little tricky. The header and the body will show up on the same slide so you may begin and end a sentence using the two together. It is also okay to have a sentence continue onto the next slide. You can add all the photos at once and then click and drag to put them between the appropriate text boxes. When you finish and “produce” your video, you will receive an email so you may view the final product. Under the video box, there is an option to “share.” Select “email the link” (the last option). Click this button in order to email the project to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . Please add a message in the message box and share your animoto with me. REQUIREMENTS: Your video must be at 3-5 minutes in length. It must include music and at least 10 photos. It must have at least 10 grammatically correct sentences. You may focus on one character/person OR summarize the plot.
ü TV Commercial A commercial highlights the parts of a book that would make someone want to read the book. You will turn in a script: 1-2 pages, typed double-spaced, size 12 font or neatly written: 3-4 pages. If you choose this option, you have two choices. You may bring in props and have other students to help you act out your commercial. You must rehearse with you partner(s) before your presentation.
ü Would I Trade Places? Write an essay explaining why you would like or would not like to trade places with the main character. Your essay should be 1-2 pages, typed double-spaced, size 12 font or neatly written: 2-3 pages. Give at least four reasons for your choice and use supporting details from the story to explain further.
**Attached, you will find a rubric that will be used for grading these projects. **You are to choose ONE of these book projects for ONE of the books that you read for this quarter.
HAPPY READING!!!
Sincerely,
Miss Barrowman
